Sea Kayaking and what nots...

so from last time i have been on yet another sea kayaking trip, but this time it was in my home town down the harbour to Qaurantine Island. :) we ventured off on wednesday in high winds, but luckily had a tail wind so we rafted together and got out a fly and sailed down!!!n it took under half the time it wouldve taken to paddle so we ended up there before dark just as the sun came back out and the wind disappeared! so it made for a lovely evening :) we stayed in the lodge which was very homely and had a night of playing cards, massages and mafia... next day was a sleep in then up to round up some sheep for sheering, this in itself was quite funny :) we went exploring round the island and did a beach clean up and then finally after lunch we did some tree planting which didnt take long and was fun!!! Kirsten jumped int eh wheelbarrow and james pushed it but whilst goin down hill after running over some jumps, james couldnt hod on and kirsten got tipped out hahah was a crak up! photso soon of that :) we spent that afternoon chilling in the sun, juggfling soccer ball and devil sticks and also attempting at fishing but just ended up chilling on teh jetty, watching tim and spanko and mel be nutters int he kayaks :) the next day we left the island and in 40knot winds.... not scary at all nooooo we paddeld to the safety of shore and got picked up yay! gotta go now that wasnt a very excting post but oh well ciao!! xox

Monday 12 September 2011

a month on from last time....

so what have i been up too...... well...... ive been on two alpine tramps one in 30cm deep snow the whole time!!! was so much fun except for wearing these silly mountaineering boots which gave me my ankles and feet rather nice bruises and swolleness! and then the week straight after that was a five day alpi9ne tramp in Glenorchy, up from Queenstown. we went over the sugarloaf pass which was cool as covered in snow and we did some self arrests with the ice axes so we got to slide down very big hills. lots! was fun! then the week after that we went away on three day/ two day sea kayak from Cromwell to Clyde. was very cool had a really nice sunrise and teh colours on the snowy hills was very nice to look at. we stayed a night at one of the old miners cottage and got to go exploring on the rocky hills :) found some climbs that you could only get to by boat!!! and on the last day we got out the tent flys and sailed down to our destinatinon! was so much fun beacuse ive always wanted to sail that part of the pass, but next time i will be in my sail boat haha
last week was just lectures and being sick.... finally got over it. throwing up ont eh paper run is not ideal!
and now this week is another three day sea kayak trip to Quarantine island with some proposed tree planting for the rugby world cup ness shall be grand.
oh and last saturday we spent the night sitting on the flats roof, looking at the rugby stadium and listening to the England vs Argentina game on the radio and surprisingly this was satisfying enough :)
so i shall go and continue on with this non exciting life.... until then ciao!

Day 8: Monday 18th July
Had bacon and eggs for breakfast and then walked into the township of Bowen. saw a kombi..... the town is very rural so mostly farming nad yea its rich and fancy beside shitty and we saw our first aussie hobo!.... bought some caramel popcorn.... and sent my postcareds. we got supplies from supermarket and had a short taxi bak to the boat. we motored to the public marina to fill up wiht water and the guys took the generator to be fixed. we finally left for our overnight and tomorrow journey to Magnetic Island. Jake made mac and cheese for tea (tis good!), and after that we started our shifts. we saw the sun go down, beautiful clear night sky and then the sun come up 6am. my shift was 3am-6am so i had a wee dance and giggle whilst steering with my music in and also keeping an eye our for whales!

Day 9: Tuesday 19th
finished my watch this morning and drank a hot choc while wtchiang the sun come up. then tried to sleep, tickle monster :P then Marty calling us to see the 2 whales and numerous dolphins!!! was super awesome. we saw lots of whales playing around. had a dip over the side..... whilst in the middle of the ocean and yea just sailed and tanned it up and took pictures all the way until we finally made it to Magnetic Island, and anchored in the dark in Picnic Bay. we had a mean feast, drank wine and watched 9, black books and carl barron so had a good laugh then went to bed!

Day 10: Wednesday 20th
Its Bens birthday!!! he is 22 so i sent him a text this morning. went for a swim off the side of the boat after Jake climbed up the mast and I couldnt find him.... he jumped off from there :), had a late breakfast and just chilled on the boat. We then went into the bay and found a really nice bar right there on the waterfront, it had a set of table and chairs which were made out of tree branches!!!! we then went to Nelly Bay on the bus to look at marina and get some food supplies then back to bus to boat. watched tranformers now sleep.
(some random drawings of a fish cat marshmellowman flower and butterfly...... i was tired)
Had tea then went ashore to the pub and had a couple of rum and cokes. This bay is pretty much unhabited with an amazing view and beach and a great styley pub and restaurant! huge! but just not enough people here. we talked about if you ran a LTS here or for me  a sea kayak business and drived around in a moke!! would be super awesome.... new dream after i travel: start something up in Picnic Bay, Magnetic island and live in teh most amazing place ever!!   now to watch a movie and drink some more!

Day 11: Thursday 21st
Today we motored to Nelly Bay go fuel and travelled to Horseshoe Bay on the other side ish on Magnetic Island. we went ashore and looked at the shops and had a drink on the waterfront! I got some pressies for the fam. We ate fish and chips on the beach in teh hot sun. I/we have decided our next vehicl will be a moke! we are now on teh move to Cairns and as there is literally no wind, we have all sails up and using the motor to bet there. Its going to be a very long 2-3 days if the wind stays like htis so hopefully not.
close encounters 100m range with some sleepi9ng whales, who we had to deviate away from on the tracker. amazing at sunset! i had first watch so 9-12am no wind, saw 3 shooting stars and watched the red moon come up!

Day 12: Friday 22nd
got up 6am to steer the boat and then cook pancakes at 9am then went to sleep and got up round 12pm ate lunch andall of today has been pretty much eat sleep steer the boat, sit and daze so a very long day and atm its only 4:15pm. Im writing outside, jake is steering and we are having snacks... :)  its werid cos we are flying home tomorrow night. sad days.

Day 13: Saturday 23rd
we left our anchor at Fitzroy Island after a night of drinking  a lot of rum and coke after celebrating us finally making it!! so needless to say i had a nice sleep in. we motored into Cairns marina finallyu! and met Danielle and Tony who are the new owners of the boat. we had brekki and went for a wee cruise on the boat to the mooring and had a chat with them, lovely people! we/me marty and jake went for a bit of a shop in Cairns. we walked along the waterfront and saw a million people sunbathing, it was crazy! had a mean as local band playing and walked through and looked at the markets then to the shops which ewas cool. we went back to the baot and i had my first shower of the whole trip!! well proper shower!! you needed s card to get into them, very fancy but awesome best shower ever!!!! bought some more pressies from teh deckshop  marina shop then went out for tea at the fanciest restaurant i've ever been to. they set our place mats and constantly filled our drinksm, they were like freaking eagles!!! butg was cool I had a chicken dish which tasted sooooo good!!Had a good old chat with Jake about the waitors and stuff. Also on the menu was olives stuffed with crocodiles!!!........ the restaurant was kinda outdoors it had no walls and random lil pools of water was amazing. we then taxied it to the airport and sat on the ground until checkin. after we checked in 8.30pm we had till 11pm before our flight. so it was playing cards looking at shops watching black books on jakes laptop and having a quiet one. our flight was delayed so we left at 12am...  we all fell asleep mostly. was a nice plane ride at night :) xox

Day 14: Sunday 24th
had to run through customs etc for the boys to make their Napier flight , so had 15min to say goodbye. Marty gave me a hug and then I hugged Jake, was sad when they left. after Jakes last glance and wave bak and then they were gone. I turned away and had a lil tear but alguds. i walked round the airport and ate and mum rang and had a wee cry and then she made me cry lol then got on my plane from auck to CHCH and made it Chch and waited 5hours whislt it started snowing, went and hung with lynette and Jacqui (2nd,3rd cousins). went back to airport and found my flight to Dunedin was cancelled due to weather..... rang mum and had another wee cry due to tiredness and went and waited in line for an hour whilst making friends with Sarah and some lady. got on the phone and 2 hours after finding EVERYTHING was canecelled due to weather had a flight rebooked for Tues morning. went back and stayed at Lynettes beacuse it was snowind and needed somewhere safe to sleep and had a glorius sleep with a dog snuggled up to me:)

Day 15: Monday 25th
so had a day to spare today i had a pretty good sleep. woke up to a foot of snow!!!!!!! and its been snowing all day so i just ate food, watched tv had a wee play in the snow and then we went driving to teh mall and supermarket and there was shitloads of snow everyhwere. me and jacqui went with her guy friends and had a large snow fight. came home had tea sorted flights and talked to mum. now back at the airport lying on teh floor wiht all my gear and attempting to get comfy for a nights sleep!! have had a rum and coke so now its safety proof gear, pee and sleep. maybe get a pic of my camp at airport and then hope that i fly home tomro morning! xox

Day 16: Tuesday 26th
spent the night at teh airport. was interesting experience, didnt get much sleep as the bright lights were on and annoying "we are a safety conscious airport, please dont let your children play on the esculators", kept on playing all night hahah at 4.30am a security lady came round and woke everyone up beacuse we werent allowed to sleep here anymore and we had to move.... so i walked aorund had breakfast and kept an eye on the screen for my flight. it had check in suspended due to ice in chch for an hour, so i was thinking oh no you dont! just be delayed!!!!!!! but in the end Sarah and I were sitting there and I saw it and was like oh no hell no and it came across the screen "cancelled due to weather". ................ FML!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.  so once again a lil cry, ring mum and on the phone to rebookflights.... again....so spent a lot of time on the phone getting food and then mum rang wanting me home ... so i spent an hour booking a bus with sarah for tonight and cancelling my flight for tomro. the lady was pissing herself laughing wehn i said i wanted to cancel, because it was the opposite of what she had heard for the last three days. so now im sitting indoors, waitng for the bus got 2 and hlf hours till i leave chch and finally make hopefully my last leg to home and finish this trip!
ok so i made it home got to the bus station and got  a giant hug from mum and a normal hug from dad lol went home had cake and had to show all phootos and tell my trip story before i finally got to bed at 12am...

it was a grand old trip filled with many twists and turns and surprises but it was still good! saw some amazing places and spent my time with two awesome people that made me smile! thanks

sorry for the jumbled ness of wrds but i copied straight from my log (mostly) and half the time i was writing this i was half asleep lol enjoy xoxoxoox

Bus, walk, train from Southbank to Airport, fly to Hamilton Island, dodgy landing. Ferry to Airlie beach, bus to Abel point marina but boat was in a different place (back at where we got on the bus...). because it was late we decided to eat and stay at club crocodile (mean hotel with pool and spa!!!). saw a bat in the tree whilst in the spa with jake, he got to see it fly away and he wrote here It was HUUGE!!.

Day 3: Wednesday 13th
Got up, walked to coles, bought food and carried it all back, taxied to marina and found boat, tender motor sucks!!! organised boat, had first gin and tonic at lunch., watched part of up with jake, and sorted music on boat and now have strobe lights cos of the bass.... drinking my first port! YUM!

Had a few rum and cokes, had tea and now drinking port! gooood niiiiight!!!

Day 5: Friday 15th
Slept in , Jake made pancakes. went for a swim and snorkel on the reef. Sailed to Butterfly Bay, took 4hours..... was cloudy and windy 20-25knots with big waves and was slightly scary but good to sail. would have been faster to motor around in teh calm bits. ate lunch, read with Marty falling asleep and then Jake falling alseep at my feet. now cook tea and chill... :)

Day 6: Saturday 16th
Left Butterfly Bay after a sleep in and a crap sleep with water dripping in my face from the port hole being open and teh cupboard door falling on my head everytime there was a big wave, so went on the big nice mattress. We motored around to Stonehaven and moored up and had lunch then sailed over to Langford island and went walkies. Now back at stonehaven for the night. gonna have drinkies wine and cheese..

(now there is four pages full of random drawings by me and jake, his amazing boats and sharks and lone divers and of course the good bat and bad bat )

Day 7: Sunday 17th
Woke up and started our sail to Bowen. left the clouds behind and endedup in sun!! we had a nice wind bwhind us for most/the whole way so that was super good! It was quite swelly when we first started and i was sailing/steering in my jammies.... again... After lunch we were cruising along and the water was a beautiful blue with hot shining sun! we saw a sea snake, a flying fish and two dolphins!! when we got into bowen , we managed to manouvre the boat into the marina, through a nail biting 1.1m deep channel. Jake steered us, well done to him :). Jake and I went onshore to have a shower. cold water.. and whilst i was in there a frog crawled up out of the drain and there was one in the toilet.... i did scream a lil...
we had tea at the yacht clud and found that we really have our sea legs now!
the stars last night were beautiful and sky so clear! there is an awesome friendly local boatie who looks a bit crazy! but he helped us so that was nice and i swear it was him, but in the darkness we heard  tender putting along so i shone my torch on it and then turned it off and you hear him go "hoo, hoo". nmade us laugh. good old aussies! writing postcards and sleep.

I will leave you with the first week.... tomro or so i will put the rest of it up :) enjoy hahahah
